Joe Hofrichter, 90, of Port Angeles, Washington passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 2.
A graveside ceremony will be held on Monday, December 11 at 1:00 pm, at Mount Angeles Memorial Park, 45 S. Monroe Road, Port Angeles, WA. Immediately following will be a celebration of life event at the Independent Bible Church, 116 E. Ahlvers Road, Port Angeles, WA. Memorials may be made in his tribute to the Alzheimer’s Society (alz.org).
Joe was born July 14, 1927 in Elsendorf, Germany to Georg and Margareta (Rockelein) Hofrichter. His family eventually came to the United States and settled in the Port Angeles area in 1929. Joe enlisted and served in the US Navy during WWII as a mechanic in the engine room on the USS Hatfield from 1945 to 1946. Afterward, he married his first wife and started a family of 3 children. Joe eventually became a shareholder at Pen Ply, working multiple positons as a lathe operator, truck driver and boom operator. After retiring in 1992 he drove school bus for Olympic Christian School until 2002. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed annual trips to Alaska with friends who also had a true passion for the sport. He also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Joe is survived by his wife Elaine (Studhalter)Hofrichter; sons: Terry (Kris) Hofrichter of Redmond, WA; Mike Hofrichter of Port Angeles; and six step-grandchildren; and his sister Marie Gunda Miller of Port Angeles. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sharon Cramer of Port Angeles; his sisters Margaret, Betty, Lena and brother Hans.
